About:

Tanya Godsey is a new artist brought to our attention, and i must admit i got pretty caught up with her song “White Page” and not only felt in love with the melody but the lyrics are also very powerful. The song talks fictive in it’s lyrics comparing people with white pages on which we write the things we do everyday, forgetting sometimes that we are Gods children and should be working more for our God then for the world “Do our lives leave much space for the the hand of a writing God, To create to sign His name on us when the work is done“, Also reminding us that our lives don’t belong to us anymore but to the one true God which we serve and to which we once turned our faces and gave our lives “Because the ink we hold is not our own”.

The album was produced by Scott Dente (of Out of the Grey fame) and Ken Lewis of Global Genius Productions and features 10 songs written or co-written by Tanya. Overall, the album talks to the mind & soul, to the weak and weary. It brings a new sound to the Christian music scene and could easily be a nominee for “New Artist of the Year” dove award this year.

Tanya is the brilliantly pure & powerful voice, her songs inspire confidence in our belief.

About:

With two independent releases and hundreds of live performances under their belt, the Toledo OH based rock outfit Southbound Fearing has returned with a new record and a rejuvenated sense of purpose. “We do what we do for the glory of Jesus Christ, sometimes the music industry has a way of distracting you from that truth but we are definitely back to the basics with this record” says singer/guitarist Brady Leonard.

Continue to article:

The “Youth Group” genre lives on through Toledo Ohio’s Southbound Fearing. Their Debut Self-titled full length album explodes with a booming of guitars, drums, and synthesizers on the first track “Irresistible”. What can be a tad misleading however going from track one to the rest of the album is the lack of continuity the songs have. ”Irresistible” has a dance power pop sound that reminds me of Jonzetta (Popularity). Songs like “Fighting Words”, “Never Fails” and “Drums” pop with a sort of heavier Anberlin sound that demands attention but loses luster after a little while.

Out of the 10 songs only one song really caught my attention and that was the song “This is Not My Home.” The song contains a pop punk/rock feel that resemble bands like Yellowcard, Relient K, The Starting Line and All Time Low. And though SFB plays with a lot of sounds through this album, I believe this song captures Brady Leonards voice the best and stylistically, this song stays true the whole song. There are no random things that pop out of no where catching the listener off guard.

Musically this is a very confusing album to stereotype into a genre. There is a fine line between playing with sounds and finding your sound. SFB might not have found their full sound but there are several great examples of balance between the music and singing.

Vocally there are parts where there could have been better takes and some parts that leave one to believe the music was more of a priority then melody or singing in general. The best song melodically is, like I said prior, “This is Not My Home.” It is the only song that seems Brady is comfortable singing and has the best balance of music and singing.

If you are a production fiend like I am, you will enjoy the way this album sounds. The drums have great pop and for the most part, if you are into the style, the guitars, bass, and synths have pretty good tone. If anything for me the production saves this album at some points.

I try not to critique on lyrics but, unless you are a youth pastor trying to get your kids good some positive christian lyrics, you may not be able to get into this album. There are a lot of times on this album you have to remember that this is the bands first record

Overall: The debut album for a band can be terribly nerve recking. Whether you are being pushed by labels or you are doing it independently. The debut full length can prove to be a great way to say, as a band or solo artist, we/I have have arrived. It can also be a so-so record that shows potential or can be terrible and nothing can save you. Harsh words but it is the business we choose to partake in. Southbound Fearing’s debut self-titled album, being released by Red Cord Records, is by no means great but there is enough of a silver lining that can prove to this bands success in the future.

About:

Steven Curtis Chapman returns with his new album re:creation. The new album features 5 new songs from Steven including the first single “Do Everything”, and all-new recordings of his 8 biggest hits. The entire album has a progressive and fresh acoustic sound, which reflects the energy and life found in the songs. The title speaks to the actual re:creation of these songs, which are re-imagined and re-recorded in a new musical space. More and most importantly though, the word re:creation speaks to the new life God is creating… re-creating… for Steven and his family as they walk forward in their lives.

Listen to the single “Do Everything” below:

“I wrote the song “Do Everything” really to remind myself and also to encourage others that everything matters; everything we do can be done as an act of worship,” says Steven. “I Corinthians 10 says, “Whatever you do, do it for the glory of God.” There’s this tendency it seems to think of life with this line drawn down the middle where there’s the spiritual stuff on one side and then just the stuff of life on the other. Really though, I think God wants us to remember, and I’m trying to learn, that whether it’s walking the dog, washing the dishes, taking out the trash… to the really big spiritual moments, that all of that can be done as an act of worship and everything can be done to bring glory to the God who made us for that very purpose.”

Artist: Robert Pierre
Album: I’m All In

Review:

“This is a contemporary Christian album, performed by an artist who is a recent high school graduate but who isn’t new to the music scene. I’ll try to break down my thoughts song by song before giving an opinion on the whole album.

Continue reading + Listen to “Light the Way” below:

“I’m All In” – A medium up-tempo song about being in a consuming and overwhelming relationship with God. It’s solid praise, so if you look at it as an enthusiastic song of appreciation to the Lord, it works fine. “Who R U” – This song is putting the question to the listeners, whether or not they’re serious about their faith when trouble arises. It’s basically taking the “I’m all in” theme from song number one and turning it around to ask, “are you all in?” This song had some good momentum to it, and the verbal delivery emphasized the importance of the main question. “Light the Way” – A slower song, and it feels more introspective than the previous ones. This is the first song on the album that I could definitely picture playing on my local Christian radio station. For some reason, the melody of the repeated line “when I can’t see my next step, your love will light the way” has a really appealing sound to me. “Maker of the Stars” – This is one of the songs that was written solely by Robert Pierre. It discusses the magnitude of God’s power and his works, and then contrasts that level of magnificence with the personal relationship we get to have with him. The tune reminds me of an older song (about 15 years old), “The Measure of a Man” by the Christian group 4Him.

“Be Lifted Up” – This one’s pure praise, exalting the Savior. It has a nice, gentle sound and it’s the kind of song that most modern churches’ praise bands would readily play for the congregation on Sunday morning. I think it’s also the first song that mentions Jesus by name. “Stranger in This Land” – I liked the echo-y beginning of this one, and the marching beat that carries on in the background while the vocals go on. When the chorus hits, Robert Pierre sounds a bit like veteran singer Michael W. Smith. This song may not be the fastest on the album, but it sure feels like it–gotta love that up-tempo pace to go with the encouragement. “Silent Cry” – It’s a call to pay attention to people who are suffering, particularly the young ones. Ultimately, the song is about unborn children and about how God sees all of us before we’re born and has a plan for us. I totally agree with the lyrics’ position that no created life is a mistake. Every child that comes into existence is precious. “Sing For Joy” – Acoustic guitar opens this song. It has a gentle vibe to it, because it’s talking about being heartbroken and still finding the will to be joyful and connect with the Lord through the difficulty.

“Greater is He” – I always like to hear songs that address the uncertain times we live in (well, really, all times are uncertain–we just feel the anxiety a little more keenly during certain eras). But if you trust in God, then for you, the verse the song is based on is true: “greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world”. Fear isn’t something we’re supposed to give in to. “Dead To Sin” – There’s a bit of electronica going on here, and it’s very catchy. “Trust In You” – Some beautiful classic-sounding piano starts this one off, then we get some more of the Michael W. Smith-style vocals. This song is a straightforward prayer to God for peace and guidance.

Downsides to the album:

For me, the music style isn’t anything I’d listen to on my own, though it’s not bad to have playing in the background. It has a nice, normal contemporary sound and most of the songs have easy-to-understand lyrics with a medium-fast beat.

Upsides to the album:

The lyrics are absolutely fantastic in regard to their truth and inspiration. The songs are uplifting and comforting, and it can be really beneficial to younger listeners to hear about the joys and struggles of someone who is pretty young himself and who co-writes almost all the songs on the album. I’m All In should work best for teen fans of Christian music who are looking for someone to relate to.” – Tiger

About:

Hillsong UNITED began in suburban Sydney, Australia, as a bunch of teenagers playing music in a local church youth band. Over a decade later they find themselves traveling the world playing to crowds numbering in the tens of thousands representing different nations, different cultures, and different challenges. As UNITED crisscross the globe they are confronted and ultimately overwhelmed by the stories of remarkable individuals facing injustice and the uncomfortable paradox of being united in worship yet divided in circumstance. If their entire focus is directed only to what happens on stage, then maybe they have missed the point altogether.
