About:
PRo’s first record, Black Out, was intended to bring people together but had a lot of pride attached to it along with a wrong worldview. Next came debates on whether or not PRo was even a Christian rapper to begin with. While PRo was in Memphis he became part of a community group that helped him grow and re-shape his worldview by using Biblical truth. During this time PRo was writing songs but soon stopped because he felt as though he was not accurately representing the name of Jesus Christ. PRo kept working and growing closer to God by constantly being challenged by his community, and then came Redemption.
The Production on Redemption is well balanced and very engaging. The listener will be hit with instant energy at times, and at other times feel their hearts moved by the passion in the music. The album is full of synths, guitars, strings, hard drums, 808s and more. There are several solid producers on the project such as PRo, Docwatson, T-Dogg, K-Drama, D Free, Big Juice, Marv4Mobeats, and Battle Axe.
Review:
Since the environment is always evolving, artists must stay hungry in order to keep releasing good new material. PRo does just that with Redemption, offering nice Hip-Hop / Rap tunes with slight changes that have yet to be heard while listening to prior Trip releases.
The disc opens with “God” a track that brings current Trip Lee fans exactly what they have come to expect: straightforward Christ-centered lyrics. Up next is “Hold Me Down” which makes you think of the one and only Jesus who is capable to hold you down through your problems in this life. Other songs that also feature a fresh sound are “In the Club” – feat. Conviction, “Fight Musik” and “Power to Die” – feat. Brothatone. Each song either displays unique background music or the vocal talents of guest artists that I haven’t heard PRo work with before.
Another prominent aspect of this release would be the message that the artist is trying to send home. There are multiple tracks laid over beautiful beats that focus on topics ranging from giving all thanks to God to working hard to stay pure until Christ’s triumphant return to rule this world. But all is not necessarily good here, however.
All in all, Redemption is a very good hip hop album. There is definitely more of an R&B touch, but it is still a rap album first and foremost. It is still better than most out there, and worth picking up the day that it comes out.
